原产南美玻利维亚，阿根廷，巴西等地，是新兴的花卉品种，性喜欢温暖、阳光充足的环境，阴暗潮湿之处生长不良。极耐瘠薄，一般土壤均能适应，对排水良好的砂质土壤特别钟爱。其生长强健，管理非常粗放；无论自播繁衍还是扦插繁殖都相当出众，短期内即可达到观赏效果，是非常优秀的景观花种。紫米粒上 面米粒较脆弱，稍有震动就会掉落，掉落的米粒不要扔掉，很容易生根。
